Vice President Kashim Shettima has reaffirmed the Federal Government’s determination to secure the release of schoolchildren and other victims abducted by criminal elements across the country, assuring Nigerians that President Bola Tinubu remains fully committed to restoring peace and security nationwide.
Shettima gave the assurance in Abuja on Friday shortly after participating in a special Jumma’a prayer held at the National Mosque as part of activities marking this year’s Democracy Day celebration.
Addressing journalists after the prayer session, the Vice President said the Tinubu administration is focused on tackling the security challenges confronting the nation and ensuring that those currently held captive regain their freedom.
He expressed confidence that the country would overcome its current difficulties, stressing that periods of hardship are temporary and would eventually give way to peace and stability.
“I want to assure Nigerians of President Tinubu’s unwavering commitment to restoring peace and stability in the nation.
“No matter how long the night is, it must give way to the light of dawn. Stormy as the weather may be, it will not rain forever. The government remains irrevocably committed to restoring peace and stability in the nation,” he assured.
His remarks come amid heightened public concern over a series of kidnappings and attacks in different parts of the country, particularly the recent abduction of schoolchildren and teachers in Oriire Local Government Area of Oyo State.
The incident sparked nationwide outrage and renewed calls for stronger security measures to protect schools and vulnerable communities from criminal attacks.
As part of efforts to address the growing security threat, President Tinubu recently approved the recruitment of 1,000 forest guards to strengthen surveillance and security operations in forests and remote areas often used as hideouts by criminal groups.
The decision followed increasing concerns over the activities of kidnappers and armed gangs operating across several regions of the country.
Shettima called on Nigerians to continue supporting government efforts by praying for peace, unity and stability across the federation.
He noted that while security agencies are intensifying operations to rescue abducted victims and combat criminality, citizens also have a role to play in fostering national unity and promoting peaceful coexistence.
The Vice President urged Nigerians not to lose hope, assuring them that the administration remains committed to implementing measures that will improve security and protect lives and property.
He also reflected on the significance of Democracy Day, acknowledging the sacrifices made by individuals who struggled for democratic governance and helped lay the foundation for the political freedoms enjoyed by Nigerians today.
According to him, the occasion provides an opportunity for citizens to appreciate the contributions of past heroes while renewing their commitment to national development.
Shettima encouraged Nigerians to remain united despite differences in ethnicity, religion and political affiliation, stressing that the values and aspirations shared by citizens are greater than the issues that divide them.
He urged people to continue praying for the country and for one another, noting that collective efforts are essential to overcoming the challenges confronting the nation.
The Vice President further expressed optimism that ongoing reforms and security initiatives introduced by the Tinubu administration would gradually yield positive results and contribute to lasting peace and stability.
He assured citizens that the government would continue working tirelessly to improve security, strengthen institutions and create an environment where all Nigerians can live and pursue their aspirations without fear.
The Democracy Day prayer session was attended by government officials, religious leaders and members of the public who gathered to offer prayers for the peace, unity and progress of Nigeria.
