Bago’s Self Declaration As Tinubu’s Campaign DG Act Of Sycophancy — PDP Chieftain

FROM SAMSON ALFA,MINNA

The recent self declaration by Niger State Governor, Umar Mohammed Bago as the Director General of President Bola Tinubu’s 2027 Campaign has been described as sycophancy and deliberate attempt to undermine the National leadership of All Progressives Congress, APC.

The Niger State Zonal Vice-Chairman of the Peoples Democratic Party, PDP, Yahaya Abdullahi Ability, stated this in an interview. He also described the planned campaign tour by the APC in the state as a total violation of the Constitution and the Electoral Act which he said must be resisted.

Ability accused the APC of embarking on a premature campaign, saying that the governor had already embarked on openly canvassing votes for Tinubu despite his inability to deliver meaningful projects for the past two years in the state.

He challenged the Independent National Electoral Commission, INEC, to “rise up to its responsibilities” by warning the APC and sanctioning politicians or parties engaging in such early campaigns in the country

The politician also said that for Bago to declare himself as campaign DG for Tinubu’s re-election in 2027 was a move to force himself on the president’s political structure to anticipate victory despite his failure to provide the required dividends of governance.

Responding, the state APC Chairman, Aminu Musa Bobi, said the initiative would be undertaken in partnership with the Niger State Coordinators Forum to mobilise support across the state.

The chairman disclosed this when officials of the forum visited him in his office, stating that the tour was in line with Bago’s recent declaration of himself as Director General of Tinubu’s 2027 presidential campaign.

Earlier, Chairman of the Coordinators Forum, Dr. Umar Mohammed Dyadya, dismissed speculations that Bago was lobbying for Tinubu’s running mate come 2027.
