The African Democratic Congress (ADC) has declared that it will not enter into any merger arrangement with other political parties ahead of the 2027 general elections, insisting instead that politicians and interested groups are welcome to join its platform.
The party’s National Publicity Secretary, Mallam Bolaji Abdullahi, made this known on Thursday evening in Ilorin, Kwara State, while hosting party leaders and members during a gathering organised to celebrate the recently concluded Eid al-Adha festivities.
Abdullahi stated that the ADC remains focused on strengthening its structures and expanding its support base across the country rather than pursuing coalition arrangements with other political parties.
According to him, the party is open to receiving individuals and political stakeholders who share its vision for national development and democratic governance.
“Ahead of the 2027 general elections, the African Democratic Congress (ADC) will not join any political party, but interested parties are free to join us. Our doors are open,” he said.
The ADC spokesperson used the occasion to call on Nigerians to embrace the party as an alternative platform capable of addressing the country’s numerous political, economic and security challenges.
He urged citizens to pay closer attention to the nation’s political direction and support efforts aimed at changing the current leadership at the federal level through democratic means.
Abdullahi criticised the administration of the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC), alleging that its policies had imposed severe hardship on millions of Nigerians and contributed to worsening living conditions across the country.
According to him, the country is grappling with significant challenges that require urgent intervention, including economic difficulties, insecurity and governance concerns.
He argued that Nigerians should use the opportunity presented by the 2027 elections to demand accountability and support a political platform they believe can offer effective leadership.
The ADC chieftain also expressed concern over the security situation in several parts of the country, lamenting the increasing cases of kidnapping and violent crimes that continue to affect communities nationwide.
“It is disheartening that we are experiencing a high rate of insecurity in the country as we cannot live peacefully again,” Abdullahi said.
He noted that incidents of abduction and other criminal activities have become a major source of anxiety for many Nigerians, adding that the trend has heightened public concerns about safety and national security.
“The reported cases of kidnapping have taken a serious toll on various states of the country, and this has brought a lot of serious concern to the populace,” he added.
Abdullahi further criticised what he described as the growing economic hardship facing Nigerians, pointing to rising poverty levels and governance challenges as evidence that the country requires a different leadership direction.
He maintained that the ADC possesses the capacity and vision needed to provide effective governance and improve the living standards of citizens.
While addressing party members, Abdullahi encouraged them to prepare for the political challenges ahead and intensify grassroots mobilisation efforts in preparation for the next election cycle.
According to him, sustained engagement with voters and effective political organisation would play a crucial role in strengthening the party’s position ahead of the 2027 polls.
He said the mobilisation of Nigerians behind the ADC would contribute significantly to achieving positive political change and expanding democratic participation across the country.
The party spokesman also revealed that ADC candidates have been required to align themselves with the party’s manifesto and guiding principles, a move he said would help ensure accountability and quality leadership if elected into office.
He explained that adherence to the party’s policy direction would provide elected officials with a framework for delivering on campaign promises and addressing the needs of the electorate.
Abdullahi further assured party members that the leadership of the ADC would actively support candidates during election campaigns and assist them in reaching voters across different constituencies.
According to him, the party intends to provide the necessary political backing to candidates to improve their chances of success at the polls.
Expressing confidence in the party’s prospects, Abdullahi declared that the ADC is positioning itself to win elections at both the state and national levels in 2027.
He said the party has assembled competent and experienced individuals capable of offering credible leadership and driving national development.
“We have qualified and experienced candidates. We don’t have candidates who have been to EFCC before,” he said.
Despite his confidence in the party’s chances, Abdullahi stressed that electoral success would depend largely on the support and participation of Nigerians.
He noted that meaningful political change cannot be achieved solely through the efforts of candidates and party officials, but requires active involvement from citizens committed to improving governance.
The ADC spokesperson therefore called on voters across the country to support the party’s vision, insisting that the task of building a better Nigeria requires collective action and broad public participation.
