The Chairman of the House of Representatives Committee on Infectious Diseases, Hon. Amobi Godwin Ogah, has assured Nigerians that the National Assembly will ensure the full and effective implementation of the 2026 Appropriation Act, unlike what he described as the near-total non-implementation of the 2025 budget.

Ogah gave the assurance on Thursday during the 2025 budget performance review and the 2026 budget defence session with relevant agencies.

He observed that the past year had been particularly difficult for the country, citing what he termed “virtually zero per cent budget implementation”.

“I wish to place on record that the past year has been extremely challenging for our nation, as we witnessed almost no implementation of the budget,” he said.

He expressed optimism that the situation would be corrected going forward, stressing that effective budget execution was essential to restoring public confidence in government and ensuring that citizens enjoy the dividends of democracy.

“It is our hope that this anomaly will be addressed so that confidence can be restored in government and our people can continue to benefit from the dividends of democracy, which remain the core purpose of public service,” he added.

Ogah also urged President Bola Ahmed Tinubu to intensify efforts to fulfil his campaign pledges.

“We call on the Renewed Hope administration of President Bola Ahmed Tinubu, GCFR, to redouble its efforts to guarantee steady economic growth and national development,” he said.

He further expressed the committee’s expectation that all necessary measures would be taken to ensure full implementation of the Federal Government’s budget in the coming fiscal year.

“It is our firm expectation that no effort will be spared in ensuring the full execution of the Federal Government’s budget going forward. We must not return to the setbacks we have left behind,” he stated.
