Minister of the Federal Capital Territory (FCT), Barr. Nyesom Wike has reiterated the need for the residents of the territory to ensure they pay their taxes promptly, so that the Administration will be able to fund more infrastructure development.
Wike stated this during the commissioning ceremony of the newly constructed Collector Road CN2 known as Zakari A. Kyari linking Ahmadu Bello way by Mabushi District to Katampe District and other surrounding roads which was commissioned by the Deputy Speaker of the House of Representatives, Hon. Benjamin Kalu in Abuja.
The Minister explained that payment of taxes such as ground rents and other revenues are what will help the government to put in place meaningful projects that will positively touch the lives of residents.
He called on those he described as “big men” whom he accused of always default in payment to change the narrative by ensuring they pay promptly.
“If you don’t pay, nobody will provide this infrastructure. The only thing the city has is to collect tax”, he clarified.
The Minister expressed gratitude to President Tinubu for his continued support and for identifying with the FCT during the commissioning of completed infrastructure projects.
Wike also clarified that while the road benefits the Judges Quarters, its connectivity extends to numerous other areas, significantly enhancing accessibility across the district.
He said with the completion of the new road, property owners in the area will feel the positive impact as values of their property will increased.
He commended the contractor, CGC Nigeria Limited for completing the project ahead of schedule and for showing capacity, stressing that the Collector Road CN2 is the fourth project executed by the company and commissioned recently, with others including projects in Gishiri, Wasa and the Greater Abuja Water Supply.
