In a major breakthrough against organised motorcycle theft, operatives of Gombe State Police Command have arrested two suspects and recovered three stolen motorcycles.

According to a statement by the Police Public Relations Officer, DSP Buhari Abdullahi, the operation was carried out by a team under Operation Hattara led by CSP Ali Madawaki, following a tip-off which led police to a criminal hideout at Tudun Hayin Kwarin Misau, Akko Local Government Area, where two suspects were arrested.

During interrogation, the suspects, Misba’u Adamu, 25, from Alkaleri Local Government Area of Bauchi State, Adamu Ibrahim, 28, from Garko Local Government Area, Kano State, confessed to breaking into the residence of Mohammed Usman in Hayin Kwarin-Misau around 4am on July 6 and made away with two motorcycles – a Qlink Cassie with registration number ABC 484 WN, and a Hero Hunter with registration number GME 36 QL.

The stolen items, valued at N1.8 million, were recovered from a location where they had been hidden by one Babangida (surname yet-to-be confirmed).

The police said efforts are ongoing to arrest the syndicate leader and other accomplices still at large.

In a separate development, police on routine night patrol around 1am in Wuro Birji area of Akko Local Government Area intercepted a black Jincheng Kasea motorcycle with registration number DKU 099 UK.

The rider, upon sighting the patrol team, abandoned the motorcycle and fled.

Efforts to trace the fleeing suspect and the rightful owner of the abandoned motorcycle are ongoing.
