Governor Sheriff Oborevwori of Delta State has openly declared that securing the re-election of President Bola Ahmed Tinubu in the 2027 presidential election is his foremost political objective, describing the President’s return to office as a development he believes would further advance both Delta State and Nigeria.
Speaking during an exclusive interview on ARISE News monitored in Asaba on Tuesday, the governor said he would actively campaign for Tinubu’s second term, arguing that the President’s continued leadership would create more opportunities for state governments to deliver development projects and improve the welfare of citizens.
According to Oborevwori, supporting Tinubu’s re-election goes beyond partisan politics and forms a central part of his broader vision for Delta State’s growth.
“I’m begging people to vote for President Bola Tinubu. It’s my number one project. That project is bigger than any other project because it will help us achieve more for our people,” the governor said.
Oborevwori credited the Federal Government’s economic reforms for boosting revenue allocations to states, noting that the increased inflow of funds has enabled his administration to execute projects more effectively and maintain financial stability across Delta State.
The governor explained that the state currently enjoys a stronger fiscal position than at any previous time, allowing his administration to meet contractual obligations promptly and sustain ongoing infrastructure development without delays.
He revealed that contractors working on government projects receive payments immediately after project milestones are verified, rather than waiting for monthly federal allocations before funds are released.
“For the first time in the history of this state, we are not owing contractors. We don’t wait for allocation before paying contractors. Once jobs are certified, we pay. We mobilize contractors with 40 per cent and continue to fund projects as work progresses,” he stated.
Oborevwori maintained that the improved financial standing of the state is closely linked to the economic measures introduced by the Tinubu administration, arguing that the reforms have strengthened the revenue base available to subnational governments.
“If the reforms are not working, will we get this money? More money is coming to the states. The reforms are working very well in Delta State and that is why we are able to execute projects and meet our obligations,” he added.
The governor also expressed confidence in the growing strength of the All Progressives Congress (APC) in Delta State, insisting that the party remains united and well-positioned ahead of future elections.
He recalled the recent mass movement of political stakeholders from the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) into the APC, describing the development as a significant political realignment that was carefully planned and broadly supported.
According to him, the decision followed extensive consultations involving political leaders, elected officials, traditional stakeholders, religious groups, and representatives of various communities across the state.
Oborevwori noted that the collective decision resulted in what he described as a political tsunami, with key stakeholders moving together into the ruling party.
“We all agreed that we should move. That was why the movement was a tsunami. We moved en masse into the APC and nobody was left behind. The same people who agreed to move are still there to defend the party,” he said.
The governor further stated that Delta State is expected to provide substantial electoral support for President Tinubu in 2027, citing what he described as a strong relationship between the President and the people of the state.
He argued that residents are already witnessing the effects of Federal Government policies and would likely consider those developments when casting their votes in future elections.
Oborevwori also dismissed suggestions that opposition parties could significantly weaken the APC’s position in Delta State, insisting that his administration’s performance would remain the strongest campaign tool for the party.
He pointed to numerous ongoing and completed projects across the state, saying development efforts under his administration continue to receive positive feedback from residents.
“there are too many projects that we have done and we are still doing. If I start commissioning projects every week, I may not finish before the election. The people can see what we are doing and they know the difference,” he said.
Reaffirming his confidence in Tinubu’s leadership, the governor said he believes the President’s reforms are producing measurable results and would continue to yield benefits if given another term in office.
Oborevwori argued that many residents of Delta State now view the President favorably and are increasingly convinced by the outcomes of his administration’s policies.
“I have full confidence that my people will vote for President Bola Ahmed Tinubu in 2027 because his reforms are working and they are working perfectly for the people of Delta State.
“The people of Delta State believe in President Bola Tinubu. They believe in him because, among all the candidates that may emerge, he is the only one with a strong affiliation to Delta State. Many people may not know this, but Deltans are wiser now. The man is our in-law. Unless someone chooses to be unfair, why would you vote against your own in-law? It is a family affair.
“In Delta State and across the South-South, many people see President Tinubu as one of their own. Before now, they may have been deceived, but they can no longer be deceived. The First Lady of Nigeria, Senator Oluremi Tinubu, has ties to the Itsekiri people. Therefore, no Itsekiri person would want to vote against President Tinubu. Likewise, many Urhobo people support him because their son is the governor. So, there is a strong sense of connection and support for President Tinubu among the people of Delta State.”
