Makinde Reaffirms Commitment To Improve Traditional Institutions

Oyo State Gov, Seyi Makinde, yesterday at Tapa Town, reaffirmed his administration’s commitment toward improving the traditional institution in the state.

Makinde stated this while presenting staff of office to the Elempe of Tapa, Oba Titiloye Oyekanmi, promising that his government would continue to deepen relationship with the traditional institution.

The News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) reports that Tapa is a town in Ibarapa North Local of Oyo State.

The Deputy Governor, Mr Bayo Lawal performed the presentation on behalf of the Governor.

He explained that the selection process that led to Oba Oyekanmi’s ascension to the throne was a testament to the state government’s commitment to tradition, transparency, and the rule of law.

He noted that the endorsement of Oba Oyekanmi’s family, the local government, and the Ministry demonstrated the confidence reposed in the leadership of the new traditional ruler.

He charged Oba Oyekanmi to embrace the responsibilities that come with the exalted position, while imploring him to work closely with his government to address the pressing needs of his community.

The Governor further urged the new Elempe of Tapa to take bold steps in tackling the scourges of kidnapping, banditry, and land grabbing plaguing his community.

He said that the government was committed to supporting the traditional ruler in addressing the challenges “and we expect his full cooperation in eradicating these menaces”.

“As Oba Oyekanmi begins his reign, I remind him that leadership is a sacred trust that requires wisdom, compassion, and integrity.

“I encourage him to listen to the voices of his people, to be a unifying force, and to lead by example.

“His reign should be characterised by grace, humility, and a deep commitment to the well-being of all”, the Governor said.

In his acceptance speech, Oba Oyekanmi pledged to promote peace and collaborate with critical stakeholders to fight poverty, hunger, and socio-economic imbalance in the area.

He promised to engage government at both state and local government toward the development of the area.
