Nollywood star and filmmaker Kunle Afolayan has publicly appealed for financial help, saying he can no longer cope with the latest diesel price hike that has pushed his monthly fuel bill at KAP Film Village to ₦11 million.
In a now-viral video on social media, Afolayan explained that the facility already relies partly on solar power, yet diesel costs remain unsustainable and are often purchased on credit.
“It’s not sustainable because even the diesel we have been buying was on credit and when we make small money we find a way to pay, and sometimes it takes two months to pay and then get another one on credit,” he said.
He specifically called for a loan to expand the solar system.
“We need a loan to upgrade our solar power. So if you can come to our aid, I will really appreciate it.
“I have been sad because I can’t cope with the N1,500 per litre of diesel. I can’t even comprehend it because in one of the businesses that we run, Cab Village, we spent about N11 million in 4 to 5 weeks. And even though we have solar power, we still spend a lot on diesel.
“When this announcement of the new diesel price came, I have been sad. From N995 or N1000 to more than N1,500,” Afolayan stated.
The acclaimed director and producer, known for films such as The Figurine, October 1, and Citation, established KAP Film Village in Ibadan as a major hub for movie, series, and commercial production.
The high diesel expense, he said, is severely straining operations at the facility.
