Funke Akindele Makes History As ‘Behind the Scenes’ Becomes First Nollywood Film To Cross N2bn At The Box Office

Nigerian filmmaker and actress Funke Akindele has achieved a major milestone as her latest movie, Behind the Scenes, became the first Nollywood film to surpass N2 billion in cinema ticket sales.

FilmOne Entertainment, the movie’s distributor, made the announcement on X, revealing that the film has grossed N2,103,039,706 in just one month since its release.

The distributor described the achievement as historic, declaring Funke Akindele the most commercially successful filmmaker in Africa, as well as the highest-grossing producer, writer, and director in West African history.

FilmOne also noted that she is the first filmmaker to hold the number one spot at the African box office for three consecutive years.

In a celebratory video posted on her Instagram page on Monday evening, Funke Akindele expressed deep gratitude to God and her fans for the success.

She said: “We have every reason to thank God. 2 billion and counting is not a joke. Ladies and gentlemen, Behind the Scenes to the world.”

“Joy overflows, my heart is full of gratitude to God and my amazing fans. Reaching this incredible milestone and still counting would not have been possible without you. I’m deeply grateful,” she added.

The record-breaking performance of Behind the Scenes highlights Funke Akindele’s growing influence in Nollywood and her ability to consistently deliver commercially successful projects that resonate with audiences across Africa and beyond.
