Following the confirmation of the payment of 5 months wage Arrears to the account of the striking primary school teachers, the Federal Capital Territory wing of the Nigeria Union Of Teachers (NUT) has announced the suspension of the strike action and directed all the teachers to return to classrooms and continue with their legitimate duties.
This is as it promised to intestifies more efforts towards ensuring that all the remaining entitlements are settled.
This development was conveyed to newsmen through a communique jointly signed by the Chairman, Nigeria Union Of Teachers, FCT wing, Abdulahi Shafas and it Secretary, Margaret Jethro in Abuja on Tuesday.
The Union expresses appreciation to the Minister of the Federal Capital Territory, Barr. Nyesom Wike for his prompt intervention which it said has greatly contributed to the payment of the arrears.
It would be recalled that the FCT Minister, Barr. Nyesom Wike had before now summoned a meeting where all the stakeholders present and at end of the deliberation, it was decided that the six Area Councils should provide 10 percent of their FCT accrued Internally Generated Revenue to augment for the payment.
The FCT NUT also thanked those organisations and well meaning individuals that stood by it especially Royal Fathers in the territory and the teachers who have been supporting with prayers while the strike lasted.
The teachers are expected to resume work on Wednesday (today) for teaching activities.
