Chairman of Ebonyi State House of Assembly Committee on Power and Energy, Mr Igu Nwankwo has intensified synergy with the Rural Electrification Board to ensure that electricity projects are extended to rural communities.
The chairman and member representing Ohaozara East Constituency expressed concern about the poor assessment of the 2025 budget of the board which, according to him, was at zero percent and urged it to be alive to its responsibilities.
Nwankwo assured the Board that the committee would do all that it takes for the agency to perform optimally, especially under the leadership of Governor Francis Nwifuru with his People’s Charter of Needs.
He commended the governor for the appointment of credible people into the Board, promising that the House Committee would establish a symbiotic relationship.
Earlier, the chairman of Ebonyi State Rural Electrification Board, Engr Godwin Nwankwo, while chronicling the achievements of the Board, noted that they had toured the 171 electoral wards to find out the status of electricity in rural areas.
He stated that his administration has completed the Double Circuit 132kV line from Mile 50 to Amasiri, rehabilitation of vandalised substation at Ochudo City, Abakaliki among others.
He lauded the committee for the visit which he said would be reciprocated by working towards the fulfilment of the People’s Charter of Needs of Governor Nwifuru’s government.
On their part, the Deputy Chief Whip, Mr Arinze Chukwu, the member representing Izzi West Constituency, Chief Godwin Abiri and member representing Izzi East, Obinna Mbam said the visit was to see how the budget for the Board is being assessed, especially now that they are at the end of the second quarter of the year and directed that it should forward its income and expenditure to the committee.
