Centre for Transparency Advocacy, CTA, has said there were notable improvement on logistics, security, and transparency in the Sept 21, gubernatorial electoral process in Edo.
The CTA’s observation report was released by Mrs Faith Nwadishi, Executive Director, yesterday in Benin.
Nwadishi listed key findings to include the early deployment of election materials 24 hours ahead, while polling commenced about 9:00 a.m.
“Security personnel behaved professionally, despite some overzealous persons.
“However, poor voter turnout was attributed to insecurity fears, inadequate voter education, and heavy downpour”.
The centre recommended the maintaining of transparency in the electoral process, and retaining effective logistical strategies.
” Increasing recruitment of persons with disabilities and sign language interpreters and educating citizens on polling units and voter mobilization.
“Training political party agents and security personnel on election guidelines, Nwadishi said.
She acknowledged improvement in the election’s conduct and hopes for a sustained peaceful atmosphere in future elections.
