Federal High Court in Abuja has nullified the suspension of the Senator representing Kogi Central, Natasha Akpoti-Uduaghan and ordered the Senate to recall her.
Justice Binta Nyako, while delivering judgment yesterday in a suit challenging her suspension, held that the six-month suspension violated the constitution and denied her constituents adequate representation.
Akpoti-Uduaghan had filed a suit challenging her suspension, arguing that it was in contravention of the constitution.
The court faulted the Senate’s decision to suspend the senator, declaring that it was “unconstitutional and unlawful”.
During its executive session on Wednesday, March 12, the Senate upheld her suspension despite a pending suit.
The Senate took the decision to suspend her for six months for allegedly violating its Standing Rules.
Her suspension came after she accused Senate President Godswill Akpabio of sexual harassment.
