 FROM IKHILI EBALU,  BENIN CITY

At least 50 female mechanics in Edo State yesterday graduated from a specialised training on the conversion of petrol vehicles to Compressed Natural Gas, CNG, sponsored by the National Automotive Design and Development Council, NADDC, Edo State government and the Lady Mechanic Initiative, LMI.

Speaking in Benin during the graduation ceremony with the theme: “CNG Conversion: A new horizon for women in the Automotive industry”,  the Founder of LMI, Sandra Aguebor said the 50 graduates will no doubt  boost the needed manpower for the conversion of petrol vehicles to those using CNG.

Aguebor noted that the women have the potential to convert vehicles from petrol to CNG, following their training and successful graduation from LMI.

She noted that the initiative is present in over 20 states with certified coordinators.

According to Aguebor, the aim is to move women and the girl-child forward, ensure economic prosperity for their families and keep hope alive for the girl-child, who are the most vulnerable in the society.

She said the initiative availed her the opportunity to support the girl-child with mentoring and counseling.

Aguebor stated that all the beneficiaries have been trained and certified as CNG conversion technicians, adding that LMI is spreading the campaign of females taking over the male dominated automotive industry.

She commended Governor Monday Okpebholo for supporting the initiative and the federal government for its commitment to the training.
