Nigerian comedian and actor Bovi has reignited the long-standing debate over Lionel Messi and Cristiano Ronaldo after jokingly advising people to reconsider doing business with anyone who insists that Ronaldo is a better footballer than Messi.
In a video shared on his Instagram page on Wednesday, the comedian suggested that a person’s opinion on the famous football rivalry could reveal how they interpret reality, humorously describing it as a useful test before entering into a business partnership.
Bovi explained that there is nothing wrong with supporting Ronaldo as a favourite player or even considering him the Greatest of All Time (GOAT).
However, he argued that claiming Ronaldo is objectively a better footballer than Messi should be viewed as a warning sign.
According to him, “If you want to get into business with someone you don’t know so well and you’re going to invest your money together, ask the person who his favourite footballer is.”
He continued, “If he says Ronaldo, you might still want to do business with him. If he says Ronaldo is his GOAT, that’s perfectly okay. But ask him between Ronaldo and Messi who is a better footballer. If he says matter-of-factly that Ronaldo is a better footballer than Messi, pick up your shoes and run.”
The comedian added that, in his opinion, someone who firmly holds that view may have a tendency to reshape facts to fit personal beliefs.
He suggested that such an approach to obvious issues could extend beyond football debates into other areas, including business decisions.
Bovi’s comments have generated widespread reactions on social media, with football supporters once again divided over the enduring rivalry between Messi and Ronaldo, two of the most successful and decorated players in football history.
