European Union, EU, in collaboration with the Benue State Sustainable Development Goals Office and the Ministry of Humanitarian Affairs and Disaster Management, has launched a programme aimed at enhancing stakeholders understanding of the participatory planning process for the State Durable Solutions Programme, SIDPIN.
Information officer, Ministry of Humanitan Affairs and Disaster Management, Tema Ager, in a statement in Makurdi, said the programme, which focuses on the local integration of Internally Displaced Persons, IDPs, in Benue, would address the pressing concern of poor living conditions faced by displaced persons and their host communities.
Governor Hyacinth Alia, represented by the Commissioner for Humanitarian Affairs and Disaster Management, Aondowase Kunde, assured the people of his commitment to return IDPs to their ancestral homes in dignity and safety.
Kunde disclosed that the pilot phase of the programme would commence in Guma and Gwer West Local Government Areas with other local government areas to be included subsequently.
Kunde emphasised that the workshop is a crucial step towards improving the well-being of IDPs through sustainable local urban integration.
He revealed that the Alia administration is working with the European Union and other stakeholders to develop a comprehensive plan for the local integration of IDPs, with focus on providing durable solutions and enhance community resilience.
