Benue State House of Assembly has suspended, Mr Hyacinth Dajoh, the immediate past Speaker who resigned on Sunday
Dajoh was suspended for three months, following a motion moved by Mr Emmanuel Shimawua ,APC/Kyan, during plenary yesterday in Makurdi
Shimawua stated that Dajoh should be suspended for attempting to impeach the State Governor, Hyacinth Alia.
He said that the former speaker’s action was condemnable and urged his colleagues to join him in condemning the act.
The lawmaker added that, if the impeachment move by the former speaker had not been foiled, it could had thrown the state into confusion.
He disclosed that on Aug. 21, Dajoh called members of the parliament to a meeting in his house and planned to use the attendance at the meeting to impeach the governor.
Hon Shimawua, therefore, moved the motion that the former speaker be suspended from legislative duty for the period of six months.
The motion was seconded by Hon Abu Umoru ,PDP/Apa, who said that Dajoh’s actions deserved suspension.
Ruling on the motion, the Speaker, Hon Alfred Berger, described Dajoh’s actions as condemnable and below the legislative standard.
The Speaker, however, ruled that he should be suspended for three months against the six months recommended in the motion.
