Social Democratic Party, SDP, support organization has condemned an attempt to illegally suspend National Chairman of the party, Alhaji Shehu Musa Gabam and two members of the National Working Committee, NWC.
In a statement in Abuja by it’s National Public Relations Officer, Dr Jibrin Abubakar Jiyade reaffirmed it’s confidence in the Shehu Gabam national leadership of the party.
“Today, we, the SDP Support Organization, issue this press release to address the recent coup d’etat attempt by certain individuals who are monetary motivated by their pay master. We have been closely following the developments and reactions from the media and the Nigerian people, and we are compelled to state our position on this matter.
“We strongly condemn the attempt by these overzealous individuals, led by a self-centered person, to undermine the leadership of our Party. Their actions are characteristic of a dictatorship and military orientation, and we call it a coup because it seeks to usurp the authority of our democratically elected leadership.
Fortunately, our capable National Chairman, Alhaji Shehu Musa Gabam, and the National Working Committee ,NWC, have successfully aborted this coup and restored normalcy to the Party. We commend their leadership and commitment to democracy.
“As a support organization with over 500,000 members across Nigeria, we stand firmly in solidarity with our National Chairman and the NWC. We have been aware of the plans by enemies of democracy to destabilize our Party, and we have been sensitizing our members to be vigilant. We are not surprised by these developments, and we are ready to defend our Party against these enemies.
The Nigerian people are aware of the individuals involved in this coup attempt and their intentions. They have failed to understand that the SDP is a project in the hands of God Almighty, and it will continue to grow stronger despite their efforts to undermine it.
“We reaffirm our support for our National Chairman, Alhaji Shehu Musa Gabam, and we will continue to mobilize the Nigerian people, especially young people, to join the Party and support his leadership. We have grown beyond surrendering to intimidation from any quarter, and we will not be deterred by the antics of these individuals.
It’s unbelievable that those who cannot deliver their polling units even in their own election would want to remove the National Chairman of our Party. Instead of focusing on building their political capacity, they are busy planning what they will never succeed with.
We will not allow any individual or group to undermine our efforts. We will stand to defend our Party and its leadership. We will pray for God Almighty to put our enemies to shame and bring them to justice.
