Airport-Kuje Road Ready For Commissioning June Ending — Wike

By Ismaila Jimoh, Abuja

The Minister of the Federal Capital Territory, FCT, Mr Nyesom Wike, has expressed strong optimism regarding the timely delivery of the strategic road networks linking the Abuja Airport Expressway to Kuje and Gwagwalada.

Wike stated this on Wednesday during his ongoing projects inspection tour in Abuja, disclosed the projects have reached advanced stages and would be ready for inauguration by June 2026.

During the assessment, he highlighted the strategic importance of the route, which aims to provide a direct link between the airport and satellite towns, significantly reducing travel time for residents.

The Minister confirmed that the Airport to Kuje road, which is critical stretch has exceeded 70% completion.

Similarly, on the Kuje to Gwagwalada road, he revealed that work on the section is currently estimated at nearly 65% completion.

He noted that once completed, the road will allow travelers moving between Gwagwalada and the city center to bypass the main airport road entirely, easing traffic congestion.

He noted that the contractors—Arab Contractors for the Airport–Kuje axis and Gilmore Engineering for the Kuje–Gwagwalada dualization—have shown commendable dedication.

“I am quite impressed. You know that the Airport to Kuje road is one road that is very key for us. Then from Kuje to Gwagwalada, the last time I was there… we were well impressed with the level of work done”, the Minister stated.

He further assured residents that the project remains a priority under the Renewed Hope Agenda, with a target inauguration date set for the first week or end of June.

The Airport–Kuje road project, originally awarded in 2019, had suffered years of delays before being revived by the current FCT administration.

The FCTA recently announced a compensation package of N1.1 billion for properties affected by the construction to ensure work continues without further hitches.
