Academic Staff Union of Universities, ASUU, Yobe State University, YSU, Branch, has commenced an indefinite strike due to government’s failure to meet their demands.
Chairman of the branch, Dr Ahmed Karage, disclosed this in an interview with AljazirahNigeria yesterday in Damaturu.
According to him, after several months of engagement, formal communication and appeals to relevant government authorities, ASUU has been compelled to embark on indefinite industrial action due to government’s failure to meet the demands presented to it.
Dr Karage noted that the demands are as follows; Implementation of N70, 000.00 minimum wage of 2024 consequential adjustment as approved by the National Salaries, Income and Wages Commission to all public universities, arrears/variation of the N70,000 minimum wage consequential adjustment from 2024 till date.
ASUU said there was no annual increment of salaries and steps, promotion of staff and placement on appropriate steps by the university governing council.
