Yobe State Police Commissioner, Usman Jibrin has warned officers against acts of misconduct, including extortion and abuse of office.
Jibrin gave the advice shortly after the monthly security meeting on April 30 at the command headquarters in Damaturu, with members of the management team, heads of departments, divisional police officers and other senior officers in attendance.
A statement signed by the Police Public Relations Officer, SP Dungus Abdulkarim, said the meeting critically reviewed the prevailing security situation across the state, with particular focus on emerging threats and strategies aimed at strengthening operational effectiveness.
He also expressed grave concern over the recent attack on Dapchi Police Station by non-state actors, which led to the destruction of police assets.
He described the incident as unacceptable and assured that proactive measures are being implemented to prevent any recurrence.
To this end, the commissioner issued firm directives to enhance operational readiness, intelligence-led policing and rapid response to security threats across the state.
He emphasised the need for proactive policing through robust intelligence gathering and directed all Divisional Police Officers to strengthen informant networks and maintain effective communication with the command headquarters.
He reiterated the command’s zero-tolerance stance on corruption and unprofessional conduct, stressing that erring officers will be dealt with in accordance with the law.
The command reaffirmed its commitment to uphold human rights and the rule of law.
Officers were cautioned against any form of extrajudicial actions, with a reminder that accountability and proper supervision remain paramount.
While acknowledging the complementary role of vigilante groups, the commissioner stressed the need for proper coordination and supervision of their activities, noting that officers would be held responsible for any misconduct within their areas of responsibility.
In a bid to enhance security, he directed intensified operations and raids on identified criminal hideouts across the state.
He also emphasised strict compliance with operational directives, including timely submission of situation reports.
Jibrin called for strengthened collaboration with other security agencies, while encouraging officers to deepen engagement with community leaders, traditional institutions and relevant stakeholders in addressing security challenges.
The command reiterated that the Nigeria Police Force Social Media Policy remains in force and warned against unauthorised dissemination of information.
