The Chairman of the Nigeria Democratic Congress (NDC) in Ebonyi State, Prince Enyinnaya Alum Udensi, has urged members of the public to disregard the purported resignations of its former party executives, saying it’s as a subtle cover up for their suspension from the party.
He said the errant EXCOS were suspended following allegations of grave misconducts and corrupt practices currently being investigated by the national leadership of the party.
In a statement issued in Abakaliki, Wednesday, Udensi and the Ebonyi State NDC Publicity Secretary, Sir Vitalis Nnajieze, the NDC leaders disclosed that the party was currently investigating a petition made to the National Chairman and Secretary, with a copy of the petition made available to our reporter.
In the petition obtained by our reporter, the Ebonyi NDC leaders leveled allegations of gross misconduct, breach of the party’s constitution, anti-party activities, financial impropriety, forgery and conducts prejudicial to the interests of the party against the former State Secretary, Barr. Adum Solomon Chinedu, the State’s former Deputy Chairman, Comrade Idenyi Okechukwu and the State’s former Welfare Officer, Cyril Ajah.
Others also listed in the petition include the State’s former Youth Leader, Anthony Nwofe and Assistant Publicity Secretary, Rex Nwome.
It would be recalled that some print and social media platforms have been awash with reports that mass resignations of State Executives have hit the Ebonyi state leadership of the NDC.
However, referencing the said petition made to the party’s national leadership, Udensi disclosed that the erring former State EXCOS had been officially suspended from the party last weekend in an expanded State Executive Committee meeting pending investigations by the Party’s national leadership before their make-believe purported resignations.
The petition read: “The NDC in Ebonyi State under my firm leadership and guidance had since after the primary elections formally petitioned the aforementioned principal officers for various offences and gross misconducts, ranging from financial misappropriation including obtaining money from aspirants, forgery of party’s documents, anti-party activities and other gross misconducts we strongly consider a breach of several provisions of the constitution and of course, conducts we also consider prejudicial to the interests of the party. As I write, the NWC is eager to constitute a probe panel to unravel the allegations against them,” he said.
“We hereby submit this petition against Barr. Adum Solomon Chinedu, Comrade Idenyi Okechukwu, Cyril Ajah, Anthony Nwofe, Rex Nwome, for acts which, in our considered view, amount to gross misconduct, constitutional violations, anti-party activities, and conduct capable of destabilizing the Nigeria Democratic Congress in Ebonyi State.
“The aforementioned officials have, through a purported vote of no confidence, a series of coordinated media appearances, press interviews, and public statements, embarked upon a sustained campaign of calumny against the leadership of the party in Ebonyi State.
“In these public engagements, they have openly cast aspersions on respected leaders of the party, including His Excellency Dr. Sam Egwu, Hon. Anayo Edwin, Hon. Linus Okorie, and Engr. Fidelis Nwankwo, while simultaneously leveling unsubstantiated allegations of fraud and misconduct against party officials without utilizing the constitutionally recognized internal dispute resolution mechanisms of the party.
“Their actions have exposed the party to public ridicule, weakened confidence in its leadership, and created avoidable divisions within the ranks of our members.
“The genesis of the present crisis can be traced to events of 22nd May 2026, when Barr. Adum Solomon Chinedu allegedly directed Capt. James Eze, (Rtd.), the State’s Financial Secretary, who was temporarily in possession of party funds owing to operational issues affecting the State Treasurer’s bank account, to allegedly distribute the sum of Three Hundred Thousand Naira (₦300,000) each to selected members of the State Executive Committee.
“The Party’s Chairman authoritatively availed the Press of details of the said disbursements without his knowledge authorization alongside further evidence of other financial improprieties perpetrated by the now suspended party Excos.”
The petition further read: “Upon receiving transaction alerts relating to these payments, the State Chairman and the State Organizing Secretary immediately questioned the legality, propriety, and purpose of sharing party funds among executive members without the approval of any competent organ of the party.
“Both officials rejected the payments and refunded the money to the Financial Secretary.
“Rather than provide satisfactory explanations regarding the intended distribution of party funds, Barr. Adum Solomon Chinedu, Comrade Idenyi Okechukwu, failed to properly account for portions of the funds and thereafter commenced actions calculated to undermine the authority of the State Executive Committee and destabilize the party.
Further concerns arose when the State Chairman, in recognition of contributions made by dedicated party members, issued commendation letters to deserving individuals who had contributed to the growth and development of the NDC in Ebonyi State.
“However, Barr. Adum Solomon Chinedu prepared and submitted a purported recommendation letter in favour of one Mr. Afamefula Ekuma to the National Assembly screening committee, falsely representing that the State Chairman and the entirety of the party leadership and membership had unanimously adopted and endorsed Mr. Afamefula for the position of Senator representing Ebonyi South Senatorial Zone.
“This alleged action amounts to a serious misrepresentation of party decisions and, if established, constitutes forgery, abuse of office, and an attempt to manipulate the party’s democratic processes.
“Of even greater concern is the public admission reportedly made by Barr. Adum Solomon Chinedu that he and his associates conducted separate primaries in Ebonyi State on 30th May 2026, during which names of preferred candidates were allegedly compiled and subsequently forwarded to the National Secretariat.
“This claim stands in direct contradiction to the officially approved NDC primaries held across Ebonyi State on 29th May 2026, which produced duly elected candidates through recognized party procedures.”
It continued that, “The purported conduct of parallel primaries and submission of alternative candidate lists constitutes a direct challenge to the authority of the party, an attempt to create parallel structures, and a deliberate effort to undermine duly constituted organs of the NDC.
“The conduct of the respondents constitutes clear violations of the Constitution of the Nigeria Democratic Congress, particularly:
Article 10.2 (iii); which mandates members to engage only in activities that propagate and advance the objectives and interests of the party. The respondents have instead engaged in activities that have caused disaffection, confusion, and reputational damage to the party.
“The actions of the errant officials violates Article 10.2 (vi); which requires members to be disciplined, honest, and loyal to the Constitution and ideals of the party. The actions complained of demonstrate a flagrant disregard for discipline, honesty, and loyalty.
“Article 10.2 (vii) which requires members to maintain confidentiality regarding proceedings and decisions of the party except where expressly authorized. The respondents have repeatedly disclosed internal party matters to the media and the general public without authorization.
“Article 10.2 (ix) which prohibits violent, indecent, abusive, and disruptive conduct capable of bringing the party into disrepute. Their public attacks on party leaders and officials have embarrassed the party and damaged its public image and Article 10.2 (x) which requires members to desist from aligning with other political parties, associations, or groups for the purpose of undermining the party and its elected officials.
There are serious concerns requiring investigation regarding the respondents’ association with interests linked to the APC , PDP and other external political actors whose activities appear aimed at weakening the NDC and frustrating its leadership in Ebonyi State.
“We respectfully draw the attention of the National Working Committee to Article 18 (vi) of the NDC Constitution, which provides that:
“The National Working Committee shall have the prerogative to take any disciplinary action against any member or officer of the party at any time, which action the National Working Committee considers to be in the best interest of the party, subject to ratification by the Central Working Committee.
“In view of the grave nature of these allegations and the continuing damage being inflicted on the image and stability of the party, we urge the National Working Committee to exercise its constitutional powers in the best interest of the NDC.
“Accordingly, we respectfully request the National Working Committee to: Immediately commence a comprehensive investigation into the conduct of the respondents.”
It urged the party to suspend the respondents from their respective offices pending the outcome of investigations and investigate the alleged unauthorized distribution and utilization of party funds.
The petition further called for the investigation of the forgery and submission of the recommendation letter concerning Mr. Afamefula Ekuma an investigation to the claims regarding the conduct of parallel primaries and submission of unauthorized candidate lists including an investigation to the repeated media attacks against party leaders and officials.
The Ebonyi NDC leaders consequently urged the party to determine the extent of the respondents’ involvement in anti-party activities and external political collaborations and apply appropriate sanctions under the Constitution of the Nigeria Democratic Congress upon a finding of culpability.
It reiterated that the continued survival, unity, and electoral viability of the NDC depend on strict adherence to constitutional provisions, party discipline, and respect for constituted authority adding that failure to address these acts decisively may encourage further acts of indiscipline and undermine the integrity of our great party.
“We therefore urge the National Working Committee to act swiftly and decisively in defence of the Constitution, unity, and collective interests of the Nigeria Democratic Congress,” it concluded.
