From Rabilu Abubakar, Gombe
Prominent politician and businessman, Jerry Damara, has formally defected from the Peoples Democratic Party, PDP, to the All Progressives Congress, APC, in Gombe State.
Damara, who is the Managing Director of Mesotho Group Limited and Chief Executive Officer of Kugbo International Market, presented his APC membership card to Governor Inuwa Yahaya at the Government House, Gombe.
Explaining his decision, Damara said he was motivated by the governor’s developmental strides and inclusive leadership style.
He added that Tangale-Waja people had resolved to put aside years of political division and rally behind the APC.
Governor Yahaya, while receiving him, described the defection as a major political breakthrough for the ruling party.
He described the businessman as a political heavyweight whose entry would consolidate APC’s strength in Gombe South.
The development is the latest in a series of defections expected to shape the political dynamics of the state ahead of the 2027 general elections.
