Barely 12 hours after the Chairman of the Imo State Cricket Association, Rodney Tony Ajaelu, publicly distanced himself from a widely circulated petition falsely attributed to four state bodies which include Bayelsa, Imo, Enugu and Ebonyi States, another state has stepped forward to disown the document.
The Enugu State Cricket Association has now officially issued a disclaimer, firmly disassociating itself from the controversial petition reportedly authored by one Pakribo Telema-Darego, who was falsely claimed to be the Chairman of the Bayelsa State Cricket Association.
In a statement released on Monday Night and personally signed by the Chairman of the Enugu State Cricket Association, Nze OGB Caesar Okogeri, the association made its position clear:
“We wish to categorically state that we are not the authors, initiators, participants, or sponsors of the petition titled ‘NSC, AKPATA UNDER FIRE AS FOUR STATES REJECT ILLEGAL CONSTITUTION AHEAD OF ASSOCIATION POLLS’.
“We did not take part in its drafting, circulation, or promotion and we disclaim any responsibility or liability for the statements, allegations, or demands contained therein.
“Any attribution of authorship or involvement to us is entirely false, misleading, and without foundation. We therefore dissociate ourselves completely from the petition and reserve all legal rights to protect our name and reputation against any misrepresentation.”
This disclaimer marks the second public denial from state cricket associations named in the controversial petition, further casting doubt on its authenticity and the legitimacy of its claims.
