Edo State Police Command has commenced investigation into the alleged brutalisation of Okai Akhani by members of a local vigilante group in Auchi, Etsako West Local Government Area.
The command condemned any form of assault, cruel treatment or abuse of authority by individuals or groups operating under any guise.
According to a statement signed by the Police Public Relations Officer, CSP Moses Yamu, the Commissioner of Police, Monday Agbonika has ordered a thorough investigation to unravel the circumstances surrounding the incident, identify those responsible and ensure that they are brought to justice in accordance with the law.
AljazirahNigeria recalls that a viral video clip of the incident, which occurred on Saturday, July 26 has gone viral and elicited widespread public concern and condemnation.
Yamu stated that the command is aware of a disturbing incident involving the alleged brutalisation of Akhani by individuals identified as members of a vigilante group in Auchi.
He warned that the command would not condone any act of impunity or human rights violation, irrespective of the status of the individuals involved.
He urged members of the public to remain calm and law-abiding, and to allow the police carry out a comprehensive investigation into the incident, as further updates would be provided as investigation progresses.
