The Abuja Leadership Centre (ALC) at Yakubu Gowon University, formerly the University of Abuja, on Thursday held a Youth Leadership Clinic for secondary school prefects and student leaders from Borno, Bauchi, and Yobe States.
The event, which took place in Maiduguri, the capital of Borno State, on September 11, 2025, also brought together young people who are in tertiary institutions, renowned academicians and representatives of the Borno State government.
Speaking at the event, Director of the Center, Professor Phillip Dahida, disclosed that the clinic was designed to provide a platform for young leaders in schools to express themselves while receiving training on leadership ethics and culture.
Professor Dahida’s thought-provoking address on youth leadership, civic engagement, and peacebuilding was well-received by participants, with the event providing an excellent platform for networking with youth leaders, policymakers, and development partners.
The occasion also strengthened the Center’s presence in the Northeast and further reinforced the Center’s commitment to building the leadership capacity of Nigerian youths for national development.
In his reaction following the successful youth leadership clinic for students in three northeastern states (Borno, Yobe and Bauchi), one of the participants, Comr. Shettima Umar applauded the Abuja Leadership Center and the University for organising such an impactful programme, which would go a long way in shaping the future of the teeming youth population in the region.
