Troops under Operation MESA have rescued three of the five residents abducted during a recent attack on a community in Kano State.
The victims were taken during an overnight raid on Lakwaya village in Gwarzo Local Government Area.
The attackers, believed to be bandits, struck under the cover of darkness and escaped with five people, throwing the area into fear.
According to the Nigerian Army, the rescue operation involved personnel from 3 Brigade working together with the Nigerian Air Force and the Nigeria Police Force.
According to the Assistant Director of Army Public Relations, 3 Brigade, Captain Babatunde Zubairu, three of the abducted residents had been safely recovered so far.
Reports said the attack happened on Sunday night, affecting the nearby Zurin Mahauta village.
The Village Head, Murtala Mai Unguwa, explained that the gunmen arrived suddenly at night and took the victims to an unknown location.
He added that security agencies were alerted immediately and responded quickly.
According to him, operations are still ongoing to track down the attackers and rescue the remaining two victims.
