As preparations gather momentum for the second edition of the CGC Volleyball Premier League, the Customs Sports Secretary, Samuel Onikeku, has assured Nigerians of significant improvements and fresh innovations that will enhance the overall impact of the league, particularly on the development of youth in the country.

Speaking on Wednesday during the ongoing 2025 CAVB U-18 Beach Volleyball Continental Cup in Abuja, Onikeku commended the organisers of the continental tournament.

He emphasized that the upcoming CGC Premier League, scheduled to take place in Abuja, next month will build on the successes of the maiden edition, with better logistics, improved welfare for players, and increased opportunities for youth empowerment.

“The second edition of the CGC Volleyball Premier League will witness overall improvements across all areas.

“We are introducing innovations that will not only raise the standard of the league but also inspire more young Nigerians to take up sports as a viable career path,” Onikeku said.

He further praised the Nigeria Volleyball Federation for its commitment to grassroots development and international exposure for local athletes.

“What we are witnessing at this continental tournament is a clear sign that Nigerian volleyball is on the rise.

“Events like this offer our young athletes the opportunity to compete, learn, and grow. The CGC League will complement this effort by giving them regular high-level competition at home,” he added.

The CGC Volleyball Premier League, sponsored by the Nigeria Customs Service, debuted in 2024 and quickly became a flagship domestic volleyball competition, drawing teams and fans from across the country.

The second edition is expected to feature top club sides, greater media coverage, and community engagement initiatives aimed at promoting peace, unity, and youth development through sports.
