Proprietress of His Majesty Group of Schools in Sapele, Delta State, Mrs Fatima Umukoro has been allegedly murdered by her son, Emmanuel Umukoro.
The tragic incident has left neighbours in a state of shock and bewilderment.
Neighbours who spoke to newsmen on condition of anonymity described the incident as gruesome and horrific.
According to eyewitnesses, the gate of the Umukoro residence was open around 10pm which prompted neighbours and passersby to check on the residents, only to discover fire coming from inside the house with the door left open.
Upon entering the house, they found the lifeless body of Mrs Umukoro burnt beyond recognition.
A neighbor who wished to remain anonymous revealed that Emmanuel was seen driving out of the compound around 8:30pm on high speed in his mother’s car.
This suspicion led to his apprehension by the police along Sapele-Warri Road as he attempted to escape to an unknown destination.
The motive behind the alleged murder is still unknown and the police is yet to make an official statement on the matter. When contacted, the Delta State Police Public Relations Officer, Bright Edafe confirmed the incident, disclosing that investigation is ongoing.
