Soludo: Politicians Promising One Term Need Psychiatric Evaluation

Anambra State Governor, Prof. Charles Soludo, has come down hard on politicians pledging to serve only one term in office, saying such individuals require psychiatric evaluation.

Speaking during a campaign rally of the All Progressives Grand Alliance (APGA) in Awka, Soludo described the promise of a single term as deceitful and an insult to the intelligence of the electorate.

“Some of them want to lie to us, how can anyone with brain – you think you are talking to fools – you come to people and say ‘I will do only one term’.

“Any politician who said that must be sent to a psychiatric home because the person must have some mental problem.

“When the constitution allows you to stay up to eight years. You come and tell us where it has ever happened.

“Anybody who says he needs only one term needs psychiatric evaluation because you are taking everybody to be a fool.”

Soludo reaffirmed that power rotation exists in Anambra State, noting that after his tenure representing Anambra South, it would be the turn of Anambra Central to produce the next governor.

He warned that any governorship aspirant from Anambra South seeking election in 2025 would be violating the state’s informal zoning agreement.

He also took aim at the qualifications of some aspirants, questioning their eligibility.

“Anambra has no place for street urchins; even those of them whose don’t have secondary certificates are questionable. Some of them have no certificate but want to be governor,” he said.

The remarks come in the wake of recent comments by former Labour Party presidential candidate Peter Obi, who declared his willingness to serve a single term and hand over power to the North if elected president.
