Fresh off his impressive triumph at the 2025 Gothia Cup in Sweden with SKF Nigerian Eagles, Anis Onyekachukwu Onyemaechi has now set his sights on earning a place in Nigeria’s U-17 national team—the Golden Eaglets—ahead of next month’s WAFU B U-17 Championship.
The 15-year-old SS2 student of Chrisland High School, Ikeja, is a product of Unique Soccer Academy, Lagos, and has already begun making waves in the national camp. Onyemaechi has displayed flashes of brilliance in early training sessions with the Golden Eaglets as he works to impress the coaching staff and secure his spot in the final squad.
At the Gothia Cup, Onyemaechi was a standout performer, anchoring the defense with calm authority and athletic saves. He played a crucial role in helping SKF Nigerian Eagles win nine consecutive matches, guiding the team to lift the U-16 title in commanding fashion.
Upon returning to Nigeria, Onyemaechi wasted no time getting back to action. He starred once again for Chrisland School at the DOA Football Annual Tournament, where his efforts between the posts helped his school emerge as tournament champions.
With his strong reflexes, agility, and maturity beyond his years, Onyemaechi has been tipped by many as one of Nigeria’s most promising young goalkeepers. If he maintains his current form and focus, the future certainly looks bright for this talented shot-stopper.
