Relative calm has been restored to Isanlu-Isin Community in Kwara State, following a peaceful demonstration in the early hours of Saturday.
AljazirahNigeria reports that angry youths temporarily barricaded Omu-Aran/Ilorin-Kabba highway at Eleyin axis in protest against the recent security concerns in the area.
Upon receiving the report at about 1000hrs, the Commissioner of Police, Adekimi Ojo, in synergy with the Brigade Commander, 22 Armored Brigade of the Nigerian Army, Brigadier-General E.B Barkins, and the state director of the Department of State Services. DSS, immediately mobilised to the scene.
They were joined by the Chairman of Irepodun Local Government Area, Abdulazeez Tinuola, and that of Isin Local Government Area, Benjamin Jolayemi, as well as community leaders who engaged directly with the youths.
A statement by the spokesperson of the state police command, SP Adetoun Ejire-Adeyemi, said “the command ensured robust deployment of tactical and conventional assets to maintain law and order, preventing any attempt by criminal elements to hijack the peaceful demonstration.
“Strategic crowd-control measures were applied with utmost professionalism to guarantee the safety of the parties involved and to secure free vehicular movement along the affected route.”
The command commended the understanding and cooperation of community leaders and youths whose engagements helped in the swift restoration of peace.
The statement enjoined members of the public to remain law-abiding and continue to partner security agencies by promptly reporting suspicious activities in their environment.
The police command reiterated that the security architecture in the area has been reinforced to forestall any breach of peace, assuring all residents that their safety and freedom of movement remain fully guaranteed.
