The Rotary Club of Asokoro on Friday, officially installed Rotarian (Barr) Chinagorom Onuorah Lynda as its 25th President, with a pledge to drive transformative projects worth ₦19.7 million during the 2025/2026 Rotary year.
In her maiden speech, Onuorah described the moment as a shared victory for every member of the club. “This moment is not mine alone; it belongs to every Rotarian who has laboured, contributed, and sacrificed to build the legacy of our club,” she said.
Reflecting on her 17-year journey in Rotary, the new president emphasised the enduring mission of service, noting that “Rotary is indeed a beacon of hope and unity, bringing together men and women of diverse backgrounds with a singular purpose, to serve humanity.”
Onuorah unveiled a portfolio of projects totalling ₦19.7 million, cutting across Rotary International’s seven areas of focus. These include disease prevention and treatment, basic education and literacy, economic and community development, peacebuilding, maternal and child healthcare, water sanitation and hygiene, and environmental support.
Appealing for collaboration, she urged members and partners to rally support for the initiatives. “To bring them to life, we need the support of every friend and partner of Rotary. Therefore, I humbly appeal for your generous contributions—whether in kind, in service, or in financial support, to enable us achieve these goals,” she said.
Also speaking, the President-elect, Rotarian (Dr) Emeka Ignatius Onyekwere, who is to anchor the 2026/2027 Rotary year, further explained some of the key projects outlined under the current Rotary year.
“One of our key projects this year is we are working on cataracts. We have a standing MOU with Asokoro General Hospital, whereby most of the indigent people who have cataract issues, who may not have money to do the operations; we usually deposit or donate about 5 million Naira every year to the hospital so that those people have the privilege. Once they are there and they are assessed and they have to do an operation, they do the operation for them, free of charge,” he said, explaining that many patients have regained their sight through this initiative.
He added that the club is also embarking on school renovation projects to ensure access to basic education and literacy, as well as maintain sanitation and hygiene among students.
He affirmed support for the newly installed president, adding that all hands would be on deck to ensure that all the projects outlined are achieved.
On her part, Rotarian Beke Francis, a past assistant governor of district 9127 who is the chairperson for Emergency Relief and Disaster Management, called on well-meaning Nigerians who love to help others to join the club, assuring them of accountability for their donations.
“There are people who have money and they don’t have the avenue to give it out. Rotary provides that platform, and it is widely recognised. So your money is well accounted for. Your money is well used,” she stated.
