The Minority Caucus of the House of Representatives has paid tribute to Nigerian soldiers who laid down their lives in defence of the nation’s sovereignty and territorial integrity.
The caucus described the courage and professionalism of the armed forces as the foundation of Nigeria’s unity and resilience in the face of persistent security challenges.
This was contained in a statement jointly signed by the Minority Leader, Hon. Kingsley Chinda; Deputy Minority Leader, Hon. Aliyu Madaki; Deputy Minority Whip, Hon. George Ozodinobi; and other principal officers of the House.
According to the lawmakers, Armed Forces Remembrance Day serves as a solemn reminder of the courage, discipline and patriotism displayed by both past and serving military personnel.
They noted that January 15, observed annually, honours the nation’s military heroes while offering Nigerians an opportunity for reflection and renewed commitment to peaceful coexistence, national unity and harmony, particularly amid growing insecurity.
While commending the armed forces for their sustained efforts against insurgency, banditry and other criminal activities, the caucus urged officers and men not to relent, assuring them of the continued prayers, goodwill and support of Nigerians.
The caucus further called on the Federal Government to urgently improve the welfare of military personnel and provide modern equipment, arms and ammunition to enhance operational effectiveness, pledging to pursue legislative measures to ensure the armed forces are adequately empowered to safeguard lives, property and Nigeria’s democratic stability.
