House of Representatives has inaugurated an ad-hoc committee to investigate the implementation of the Compressed Natural Gas, CNG, policy.

Chairman of the committee, Ahmadu Jaha disclosed that the mandate of the panel include assessing the safety, viability and sustainability of the CNG policy across Nigeria.

According to him, they are to ensure that the executive establishes CNG centres equitably across the country to give all Nigerians a sense of belonging.

He said the committee would engage relevant agencies of government, International Oil Companies, IOCs, as well as other organisations to ensure that the nation’s policy on CNG meets global best standards.

He said the committee is also to determine the adequacy of existing regulatory and legal frameworks governing the implementation of the CNG policy and recommend appropriate legislative measures.

The lawmaker said he is grateful to the leadership of the House for the composition of the committee, which he said was made up of very experienced, active and hardworking lawmakers.

It would be recalled that the House had, during plenary in May, considered a motion titled ‘Call to Establish More Compressed Natural Gas Conversion Centres Across Nigeria.’
