Delta State Police Command has recorded significant operational successes in the fight against kidnapping, violent crimes, illegal arms trafficking and drug-related offences.
The Commissioner of Police, Aina Adesola, who disclosed this on Tuesday during a press briefing in Asaba, highlighted key achievements of the command since assuming office as the 23rd Commissioner of Police.
According to the commissioner, operatives of the command’s Special Assignment Team, SAT, acting on credible intelligence, arrested a suspected notorious inter-state kidnapper linked to criminal activities in Delta, Bayelsa and Rivers States.
He said the suspect, Abubakar Mohammed was arrested on December 29, 2025 in Port Harcourt, Rivers State, following sustained intelligence-driven operations.
During interrogation, the suspect reportedly led operatives to a bush along Tobia Village, Amasoma area of Airport Road in Bayelsa State, where arms were recovered.
Items recovered from the location include one AK-47 rifle, 76 rounds of live ammunition and two AK-47 magazines, all buried and concealed in a sack.
Further investigation led operatives on January 2 to another arms dump at Uyamuge Forest along Ughelli-Warri axis, where K-2 rifle, pump-action gun, 49 rounds of live ammunition, three K-2 magazines and 32 live cartridges were recovered.
In another operation on January 6, CP-SAT operatives stormed Ohoror community along Ughelli–Patani Road, following intelligence on suspected kidnappers.
The suspects reportedly opened fire on sighting the police, leading to a gun battle during which one suspect sustained fatal injuries. A K-2 rifle, two locally made guns and ammunition were recovered, while a manhunt has been launched for the fleeing suspects.
The commissioner also revealed that three suspected gunrunners and armed robbers were arrested on January 3 during a sting operation at Ovieta Street, Ughelli.
