Serving Police Inspector, Ojo Oloruntobi, with three civilian accomplices, have been arrested for allegedly robbing, terrorising and extorting unsuspecting members of the public in Edo State.
The suspect, Charles Onah, Joseph Ohis and Enoma Agho, were apprehended on Friday, August 15 by operatives of Edo State Police Command, with charges of brutality and robbery against innocent citizens in Benin City.
The command’s spokesman, CSP Moses Yamu, in a statement yesterday, disclosed that the syndicate was uncovered, following “a viral video in which a victim alleged that he was abducted by policemen, his phone and belongings forcefully taken, and subjected to intimidation.
According to the Police Public Relations Officer, PPRO, due to complaints and other related reports, the Commissioner of Police, Monday Agbonika directed that the perpetrators be identified and arrested without delay.
He stated that the command condemns the shameful and criminal conduct, noting that the arrested officer and his collaborators would face the full wrath of the law.
He warned that any policeman found engaging in misconduct, extortion, brutality or any form of corrupt practice will be swiftly dismissed, arrested and prosecuted in line with the laws of the land.
