NYSC Suspends Orientation Exercise for Corps Members Posted to Niger State

NYSC Corps Members

The National Youth Service Corps (NYSC) has suspended the 2026 Batch B Stream I Orientation Course for prospective corps members deployed to Niger State due to ongoing renovation work at the state’s orientation camp.

The announcement was made in a notice published on the scheme’s official X (formerly Twitter) account on Sunday.

According to the NYSC, the suspension became necessary because rehabilitation work is currently underway at the orientation camp facility, making it unsuitable for the commencement of the orientation exercise.

“This is to notify the General Public and Prospective Corps Members (PCMs) deployed to Niger State for the 2026 Batch B Stream I Orientation Course that their Orientation Course Exercise is suspended for now due to ongoing renovation work at the Orientation Camp,” the statement read.

The scheme assured affected prospective corps members that alternative arrangements would be communicated once the renovation work reaches a suitable stage.

According to the NYSC, those affected by the development will receive further instructions regarding where and when to report for the orientation exercise.

“PCMs affected should note that they will be contacted at a short notice on where and when to report for their Orientation Course,” the statement added.

The management of the scheme also apologised to the affected corps members and their families for any inconvenience the suspension may cause.

“The Management regrets all inconveniences to the affected PCMs and their parents,” the statement said.

The decision follows months of rehabilitation work at the NYSC permanent orientation camp located in Paiko, Paikoro Local Government Area of Niger State.

The camp sustained significant damage earlier in the year after a severe windstorm affected several key facilities within the complex.

Among the structures reportedly damaged were male hostels, staff quarters, the multipurpose hall, and the camp kitchen.

Following the incident, the Niger State Government commenced reconstruction and renovation efforts to restore the damaged infrastructure and improve the condition of the camp.

The 2026 Batch B Stream I Orientation Course officially commenced nationwide on June 10 and is expected to conclude on June 30.

However, prospective corps members posted to Niger State will now have to await fresh directives from the NYSC regarding a new orientation venue and reporting schedule.

The scheme has urged affected corps members to remain calm and monitor official NYSC communication channels for updates and further instructions.

The orientation programme is a mandatory component of the National Youth Service Corps scheme and serves as the formal induction process for graduates participating in the one-year national service programme.

The exercise typically includes paramilitary drills, leadership training, skills acquisition programmes, and lectures designed to prepare corps members for service in their assigned states of deployment.

With the temporary suspension in Niger State, attention is now focused on the completion of renovation works and the announcement of new arrangements for affected participants.
