The President of the Nigeria Tennis Federation (NTF), Rt Hon. Victor Ochei, has expressed deep sorrow over the passing of his elder brother and friend, Distinguished Senator Peter Onyeluka Nwaoboshi, describing him as a statesman whose life of service left an enduring legacy.
Ochei said Senator Nwaoboshi was a proud son of Ibusa and a committed leader whose contributions significantly impacted Delta North, Delta State and Nigeria at large.
He noted that although they sometimes stood on different political platforms, their shared journey was defined by friendship, mutual respect and an unwavering commitment to the progress of their people.
Recalling their last meeting, Ochei said they met on 29 November 2025 at the funeral service of the father of former Chief of Naval Staff, Vice Admiral Dele Joseph Ezeoba (rtd), where they exchanged warm greetings as usual.
When he did not see the senator at the reception, he placed a call the following day, during which Nwaoboshi mentioned he was unwell—unaware that it would be their final conversation.
During the call, Ochei revealed that he suggested a meeting of Delta North political leaders before the end of the year. Senator Nwaoboshi, who said he would be unavailable in December, asked Ochei to convene the meeting on his behalf, referring to him as second in command.
Though Ochei insisted on the importance of his presence, they agreed that January 2026 would be a more suitable time, ending the conversation with hopes of meeting again.
“Today, I mourn a man of courage, conviction and loyalty,”
Ochei said. “Beyond politics, Peter was warm, thoughtful and genuinely committed to the welfare of his people. His passing is a painful loss to Delta North and to all who knew him.”
He extended his heartfelt condolences to the Nwaoboshi family, the people of Delta North and everyone touched by the late senator’s life, praying that his soul rests in peace and that his memory remains a blessing.
“Farewell, my big brother,” Ochei concluded
