Supporters of Rivers State governorship aspirant, Blessing Fubara, under the Nigeria Democratic Congress (NDC), have dismissed reports claiming that businessman Dumo Lulu-Briggs has emerged winner of the party’s governorship primaries in the state.
In a statement issued on Friday, the group described media reports alleging that “Dumo Lulu-Briggs Defeats Gov Sim Fubara’s Brother to Win NDC Governorship Primaries in Rivers State” as false, misleading, and premature.
According to the supporters, the NDC governorship primary process in Rivers State has not been concluded, stressing that neither the party nor the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) has officially declared any winner.
The statement noted that delegates’ verification, collation of results, and final certification by the NDC National Secretariat and INEC were still ongoing, making any declaration of victory unofficial.
“Any claim of victory by any aspirant, including Chief Dumo Lulu-Briggs, at this stage is premature and amounts to spreading falsehood,” the statement said.
The group further maintained that Blessing Fubara remains a valid aspirant in the race and continues to participate fully in the process in line with the party’s constitution and provisions of the Electoral Act.
While expressing respect for all contestants, including Dumo Lulu-Briggs, the supporters warned against attempts to mislead the public with unverified information.
They emphasized that the NDC is committed to transparency, due process, and democratic principles, adding that announcing winners before official confirmation by the party and INEC undermines the credibility of the electoral process.
The group therefore urged media organizations, bloggers, and members of the public to disregard the reports and await official communication from the party.
They also called on the NDC National Working Committee, INEC, and relevant security agencies to investigate and sanction those responsible for spreading misinformation ahead of the 2027 elections.
Reaffirming their confidence in the process, the supporters said Blessing Fubara remains focused and committed to the ideals of service, unity, and progress for Rivers State, adding that all official positions would be communicated through recognized party channels once the primary process is concluded.
