Edo State governor, Senator Monday Okpebholo has assured Edo people that through the SHINE Agenda, his administration will drive sustainable development in critical sectors and infrastructure for their overall growth and well-being.
Okpebholo gave the assurance when he received the Muslim faithful who were at the Government House to pay him Sallah homage.
The governor, who was represented by his Deputy, Dennis Idahosa said the administration remains steadfast in its commitment to ensure the safety and security of all residents, urging citizens to support the campaign against insecurity by remaining vigilant.
He noted that the celebration is significant and marks the end of Ramadan, a sacred period devoted to fasting, spiritual reflection, self-discipline and renewal. He added that it is a time that embodies the enduring values of peace, compassion, love and unity.
“The Edo State government deeply recognises the importance of this occasion and the ideals it represents. As we celebrate, let us all embrace the spirit of unity, forgiveness and gratitude that defines Eid-el-Fitri, and continue to foster peaceful coexistence across our communities.
“Government remains steadfast in its commitment to ensure the safety and security of all residents. I therefore urge every citizen to support the campaign against insecurity by remaining vigilant, if you see something, say something.”
According to him, the significant celebration marks the end of Ramadan, a sacred period devoted to fasting, spiritual reflection, self-discipline and renewal. It is a time that embodies the enduring values of peace, compassion, love and unity.
The governor noted that together, we can overcome the challenges before us and build a safer, stronger and more prosperous Edo State. This government is dedicated to driving sustainable development, particularly in critical sectors and infrastructure for the overall growth and well-being of our people.
“As you celebrate this special day, I wish you all a joyous Eid Mubarak. May this occasion bring peace, happiness and abundant blessings to you and your families. May our dear state continue to flourish in unity, harmony and prosperity”.
On his part, the Secretary to the State Government, SSG, Musa Ikhilor praised the harmonious relationship being enjoyed in the state and enjoined all residents to support government in developing the state.
He stated that Ramadan is a period for spiritual reconfiguration, re-set, purification and spiritual growth. I call on all to continue to carry the fruit of love, good neighbourliness, charity and show mercy to the needy in the society.
The SSG added that Edo State is very peculiar when it comes to religious harmony and inter-faith co-existence. We live peacefully, as we have not experienced religious crisis.
“Ramadan and the Christian fasting period started together on February 18. It is a sign and symbol that we should continue to work and build our faith together as a people”.
In his welcome address, the Chief Imam of Benin Central Mosque, Alhaji Abdul-Fatai Enabulele commended the Governor Okpebholo-led administration for its developmental stride, especially on road construction.
He noted that under the administration, Edo State has recorded improved road networks, urging him to continue in this line and ensure that the people enjoy the dividends of democracy.
The chief imam appealed to those who perpetrate terrorism, kidnapping, robbery and raping of women and girls to stop the evil act which has led to the destruction of lives and properties.
“I call on all to give peace a chance in Nigeria, as the nation will only develop in a peaceful atmosphere.”
The Muslim community in Edo State congratulates your administration for the success recorded in the last 17 months, as the majority of Edo people are happy as you have shown seriousness in ensuring that they enjoy the dividends of democracy.
He called on government to address four critical areas affecting the people which include the energy and electricity sector, securing the lives of Edo people, environmental cleanliness and the unacceptable behaviors of bus drivers.
