Oba of Benin, Ewuare II has urged the newly appointed Chief Medical Director, CMD, of the University of Benin Teaching Hospital, UBTH, Professor Idia Ize-Iyamu, to make an impact in healthcare delivery.
The royal father gave the advice when the chief medical director led the management team of the hospital to pay respects to him in his palace in Benin City.
The traditional ruler , his chiefs and the Benin Royal Family, congratulated the CMD on her appointment and pledged the palace support.
While acknowledging the positive role of Governor Monday Okpebholo, Oba Ewuare II also thanked President Bola Tinubu for putting merit above sentiments and finding Professor Ize-Iyamu worthy of the appointment, who he described as a “round peg in a round hole”.
The monarch appealed to the UBTH management team to support the CMD, whom he said, has “done very well in representing the female gender.
“You are a professional. Congratulations madam. It is befitting that you are the CMD of UBTH.
“We are happy that you were chosen. We know that you will do your best to make UBTH a success. Be assured that you have our support, God Almighty and our ancestors will grant our prayers for you.
“I am glad that there is no gender discrimination in UBTH as the first female CMD.
Addressing the Benin monarch, Ize-Iyamu, stated that the management was in the palace to formally inform the Oba about her appointment by President Tinubu.
She sought royal blessings to strengthen her in discharging her duties and highlighted her transformative mission statement towards strengthening healthcare and improving medical services at UBTH since she assumed duty on August 18.
