Chairman of Kano State Heads of Media Forum, Ado Warawa has called on residents to take the ongoing Permanent Voter Cards, PVCs, revalidation exercise as part of their civic responsibility.
Speaking at a news briefing yesterday in Kano, Warawa said the exercise is crucial in ensuring credible elections and strengthen Nigeria’s democracy.
He said the voter’s card revalidation was not a mere administrative routine, but a cornerstone of democratic participation, urging that every eligible citizen must take part in the process to ensure accurate and inclusive electoral register.
“The time to act is now. Let us not wait until the eve of elections. Visit designated centres, follow the procedures and encourage family, friends and neighbours to do the same,” he said.
The forum also urged citizens to mobilise eligible voters for online and physical registration, stressing the need for collective efforts to enhance democratic participation.
On government facilities, the chairman commended the Kano State government for its ongoing developmental projects and but appealed to the public to use the responsibly.
Warawa said health centers, schools and community halls are public assets that should be protected against vandalism and misuse, describing them as “extensions of our homes and communities.”
The chairman reaffirmed his position on the suspension of live political broadcasts, a policy adopted since May 9 to curb misinformation and incitement.
“This decision was not taken lightly. We observed that some live political programmes had become platforms for unguarded rhetoric that threaten public peace,” the chairman said.
Warawa reiterated the forum’s commitment to media freedom, but cautioned that it must be exercised responsibly.
He reaffirmed the Forum’s readiness to work with all stakeholders to promote transparency, peace and participatory governance.
