From Henry Ibya, Makurdi
Politicians in Benue State have been advised to support the governor’s efforts towards bringing lasting peace to the state.
Principal Special Assistant to the governor on Print Media, Donald Kumun, who gave the advice in a statement Friday in Makurdi, in reaction to the president’s condolence visit to the state, said it was disheartening that some politicians preferred to fuel the killings through different false narratives, describing such acts as unacceptable.
He noted that dangerous comments are capable of sowing seeds of discord and demoralise security operatives, as well as embolden the enemies of peace.
Kumun appealed that people should consider the present moment Benue had found herself in as moment of sober reflection, where unity is mostly needed for collective action and unwavering support for the governor who is working round the clock to secure the future of the state.
He lamented that those engaging in such illicit attitudes by trading in falsehood thereby causing disunity among stakeholders were doing great disservice to themselves and the people.
Describing Governor Hyacinth Alia as the kind of leader who does not seek applauds for every step taken, the governor’s aide assured that the governor would always remain focused on the ultimate goal which is to pursue peace to ensure stability in the state.
