Independent Corrupt Practices and other related offences Commission, ICPC, has commenced the tracking of over 25 projects worth N2.2 billion across the 13 local governments of Ebonyi State.
The projects being tracked include capital projects located in the 13 local government areas.
Upon arrival in Ebonyi State, the tracking team visited some project sites in Ebonyi, Ohaukwu, Ezza North and Ishielu Local Government Areas.
The team inspected a new laboratory at Ebonyi State College of Health Sciences, Ezzamgbo, facilitated by the lawmaker representing Ebonyi/Ohaukwu Federal Constituency, built and equipped by the Centre for Management Development.
It also tracked streetlight projects facilitated by Senator Onyekachi Nwebonyi in Ebonyi North Senatorial Zone.
Other projects inspected include empowerment programmes involving the distribution of various items facilitated by Senator Ken Eze across local government areas in Ebonyi Central.
Additional projects are streetlight installations in Amagu, Ezza South Local Government Area and feeder roads in some farm settlements in Ezza South, all facilitated by Senator Eze.
The commission said the aim of the exercise was to ensure the satisfactory completion and proper utilisation of projects for which funds were appropriated.
It noted that where discrepancies or infractions are observed in the execution of any project during the tracking exercise, the contractor would be directed to return to site.
The commission stated that it may recommend the recovery of funds paid for any contract found to have been improperly executed.
The tracking team comprises members of the ICPC, Nigerian Institute of Quantity Surveyors, civil society organisations and the media.
