FROM SAMSON ALFA, Minna
Following the unfortunate incident that led to the death of a student of Ibrahim Badamasi Babangida University, IBBU, Lapai, on Monday, the management of the university has declared Tuesday, June 24, and Wednesday, June 25, as lecture-free days in honour of the late student.
The management also informed the university community and the general public that normalcy had been fully restored in Lapai town and the university’s main and Kobo campuses.
A statement signed by the Deputy Registrar of the institution, Alhaji Baba Akote, said this decision was taken at the recent high-level emergency security meeting convened by the management and attended by key stakeholders.
The management, however, dispelled rumours of alleged attack by some youths of the host community, adding that Lapai is calm and students have been advised to go about their academic and personal activities without hindrance or molestation.
Akote stated that the school authority has put in place strategies to ensure the safety of all members of university community through regular security patrols across lodges and major access points. However, all students have been advised to remain law abiding and avoid spreading unverified information.
The university appreciated the swift intervention and support given to the institution by the Niger State government, security agencies, traditional institution and community leaders in restoring peace for a secured learning environment.
