High Chief Higgins Peters Named Chairman of Sports Legendary Awards Abuja 2026

High Chief Higgins Peters, Founder and Chief Executive Officer of Opal Global Communication, has accepted to serve as Chairman of the Sports Legendary Awards (SLA) Abuja 2026 following a courtesy visit by the organizers of the prestigious event.

The delegation, led by the President of Sports Legendary Awards, Ambassador Solomon Omonokhua, formally presented the nomination and chairmanship offer to the respected businessman and philanthropist, who graciously accepted the responsibility.

High Chief Peters, who has also been nominated for the award of Most Iconic Philanthropist in South-South Nigeria 2026, thanked the organizers for the honour and reaffirmed his commitment to supporting initiatives that promote sports development, youth empowerment and national unity.

“I am deeply honoured by this recognition and the opportunity to serve as Chairman of the Sports Legendary Awards Abuja 2026. Sports remains one of the most powerful tools for inspiring young people, promoting excellence and fostering national cohesion. Speaking during the visit, President of Sports Legendary Awards, Ambassador Solomon Omonokhua, described Peters as a worthy choice whose achievements in business, philanthropy and community development continue to impact lives across Nigeria.

Omonokhua also praised the Chairman of the National Sports Commission, Shehu Dikko, describing him as the father of sports and one of the foremost drivers of sports development in Nigeria whose leadership and commitment continue to inspire growth, professionalism and excellence across the nation’s sporting landscape.

The fourth edition of the Sports Legendary Awards is scheduled to hold on July 2, 2026, at Chelsea Hotel, Abuja, where outstanding personalities from sports, business, media and public service will be honoured for their exceptional achievements and contributions to national development.

The event is expected to attract top sports administrators, athletes, corporate leaders and government officials from across Nigeria, further cementing its status as one of the country’s leading sports recognition platforms.
