FROM SAMSON ALFA, MINNA
Youth leader and Chairman of the Coalition Movement in Niger State, Comrade Yahaya Gago has urged Governor Umar Bago to focus more on transparency and accountability rather than presenting what is not obtainable in the state to the world.
In an open letter to the governor titled “Open Letter to His Excellency, Governor Bago” which was made available to AljazirahNigeria in Minna, Gago said as a former banker, the governor has refused to imbibe financial discipline and does not prioritise his projects.
” We, the concerned citizens of Niger State, are compelled to address you directly regarding the reality on ground and the narrative you present to the world”.
He disagreed with Bago’s claim of no hardship in Niger State, adding that even a child knows the happenings in the state amidst insecurity and uncompleted projects.
“It is no longer news that the insecurity in our state has reached an alarming proportion with frequent kidnappings and banditry attacks on innocent citizens which has disrupted the daily activities of the people in addition to the present economic policies.
“As a result of the harsh economic policies, many families are struggling to make ends meet. For a leader to pronounce in this critical period that there is no hardship indicates total disconnect from the reality faced by the people.”
The state coalition chairman noted that the projects initiated by the governor are being delayed, adding that they were meant to improve the lives of Nigerlites.
He, however, advised the governor to imbibe honest and inclusive approach to governance, understand the challenges faced by the people and work towards solutions that will benefit them through transparency and accountability.
In another development, Rabba youths in Mokwa Local Government Area have reminded Governor Bago to fulfill his promise on the reconstruction of a bridge that was washed away by flood.
The concerned youths in a statement urged Bago to fast track the reconstruction of the road and the bridge earlier awarded at the cost of N7 billion during the Mokwa flood disaster in May.
They lamented that the temporary wooden bridge constructed by the community across the river has also been washed away due to the constant over flow of the River Niger.
