Association of Nsukka Young Academics, ANYA, and Nsukka Federated Correspondents Chapel of the Nigeria Union of Journalists, NUJ, have agreed to collaborate to promote the advancement of young professionals in the area.
The association’s President, Dr Nelson Ossai, had yesterday called for synergy with the chapel, when the group paid a courtesy visit to the leadership of the Chapel at its Press Centre, Nsukka.
“We are here at Nsukka NUJ Press Centre because we know that the media represents a formidable vessel for the marketing and promoting of programmes and activities of the people,” Ossai said.
According to him, the media, being the fourth arm of government and watch-dog of the society, has the capacity to enhance the success of any organisation through adequate publicity.
He explained that the association is the umbrella body of all academics from Enugu North Senatorial District below the rank of a professor.
He said the association, which started in 2022, complements the activities of the Association of Nsukka Professors in Nsukka Zone and has over 1,000 members globally.
Ossai explained that major objectives of the association include creating an environment that would enable career growth and advancement of its members, providing a platform that would promote rich human and natural resources of the people.
He disclosed that the association would use its intellectual capacity to achieve its six-point agenda of educational advocacy, mentorship and endowments, entrepreneurship development, facilitating investments, agricultural support, health and social packages and constructive engagements.
“The association shall continue to engage relevant governmental and non-governmental organisations on policies and programmes,” Ossai said.
Responding, the chapel chairman, Mr Ikechukwu Odu lauded ANYA for vigorously pursuing the realisation of its six-point agenda and pledged the chapel’s readiness to partner the group.
Odu said there cannot be sustainable development in any clime where education, health and the agricultural sectors are not properly harnessed.
He underscored the need for the expansion of the nation’s educational curriculum to be able to address the contemporary needs of the people. (NAN)
